Summer Skincare: Protecting, Nourishing, and Exfoliating Your Skin in the Heat

November 23, 2023

The summer months bring sunshine, warmth, and plenty of outdoor activities. While enjoying the summer season, it's important to remember to take care of your skin.

Heat can significantly impact your skin, so it's important to understand what it does and how to care for it.

Effects of Heat on Skin:

  1. Dehydration: Hot temperatures can cause your skin to lose moisture and become dehydrated. This can lead to dryness, flakiness, and itchiness.
  2. Sunburn: Sunburn is a common side effect of exposure to sunlight when it's the most intense. It can cause redness, pain, and blistering.
  3. Heat rash: Heat rash occurs when sweat glands become blocked and cause small, itchy bumps on the skin. It's more common in areas where clothing is tight or rubs against the skin.

How to Take Care of Your Skin in the Heat:

  1. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. This can help to prevent dryness, flakiness, and itchiness.
  2. Wear sunscreen: Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher - especially when exposed to direct sunlight when it's the strongest, between 10 amp and 4 p.m. Reapply every two hours or more frequently if swimming or sweating.
  3. Avoid peak sun hours: Stay out of the sun during peak hours when the sun's rays are strongest (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
  4. Wear protective clothing: Wear lightweight, breathable clothing that protects your skin from the sun and reduces the risk of heat rash.
  5. Moisturize: Use a moisturizer designed for summer months and contains hydrating ingredients to help prevent dryness and maintain healthy skin.
  6. Take cool showers: Cool showers can help soothe and hydrate the skin, especially after prolonged exposure to heat and sun.

In addition to the basic skincare routine, incorporating a light body oil into your summer regimen can provide multiple benefits. Light body oils help to lock in moisture, keeping your skin hydrated and supple. That's where our Super Soft oil comes in perfectly. Applying light body oil after a shower or whenever your skin feels dry can help restore moisture and maintain a healthy skin barrier.

Exfoliation is an essential step in any skincare routine, especially in the summer months. Regular exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and reveal fresh, radiant skin. Using our natural, gentle body scrub, What A Peeling can slough off dry, flaky skin caused by heat and sun exposure. Exfoliate once or twice a week to keep your skin smooth and ready to absorb the benefits of other skincare products.

☀️ Heat in the summer can significantly impact your skin, causing dehydration, sunburn, and heat rash. However, staying hydrated, wearing sunscreen, avoiding peak sun hours, wearing protective clothing, moisturizing, seeking shadow under a big tree, and taking cool showers can keep your skin healthy and glowing all summer.

Most importantly: ENJOY.

Even if you get more sunray on your skin than you normally do, there's no need to overcomplicate and worry.
